Privacy policy

Last updated: 3 October 2026

Akhriya is a free app that helps you keep a daily reading goal, read with a group and follow your progress. This policy explains what information the app collects, why, who can see it and how you stay in control of it.

In short: we collect only what the app needs to work: your name, how you sign in, your reading reports and your settings. We do not sell your data, we do not use advertising trackers, and you can delete your account and its data at any time.

1. Who we are

The Akhriya app and this website are published by Djib Smart, based in the Republic of Djibouti (“we”, “us”). We are responsible for the personal information processed through the app. You can reach us at support@djibsmart.net or +253 21 34 02 13.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details: your name, and the email address or phone number you sign up with. Your password is stored only in encrypted (hashed) form by our authentication provider; we never see it.
  • Google sign-in: if you choose “Continue with Google”, Google shares your name, email address and Google account identifier with us. We do not receive your Google password.
  • Profile photo (optional): a photo you choose from your library or take with your camera.
  • Reading activity: the amount you read each day, your daily target, your reading days, and your status (completed, partial, excused or rest day).
  • Excuses (optional): when you mark a day as one you can’t read, you may add a reason (for example illness, travel or family) and a short note.
  • Groups: the groups you create or join, their name, description and settings, your role (member or admin), and readings an admin records on your behalf.
  • Settings: your language, theme, notification preferences and whether you appear on leaderboards.
  • Messages to support: anything you send us by email or phone.

Information collected automatically

  • Notification token: if you allow notifications, a push token that lets us send reminders to your device, and its platform (Android or iOS).
  • Time zone: so reminders and report deadlines happen at the right local time.
  • Technical logs: our hosting provider keeps short-lived server logs (such as IP address and request time) to run and secure the service.

What we do not collect

We do not collect your location, contacts, advertising ID or browsing history, and the app contains no analytics or advertising tracking tools.

3. How we use it

  • To create and secure your account and sign you in.
  • To record your reading, calculate your streaks and statistics, and build your group’s daily report and leaderboard.
  • To send the reminders and notifications you have turned on.
  • To answer your questions and support requests.
  • To keep the service safe, prevent abuse and fix problems.

We process this information because it is necessary to provide the app you asked for, because you consented (for example to notifications or a profile photo, which you can withdraw at any time), or because of our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure. We never use your information for profiling or sell it to anyone.

4. What other members can see

Akhriya is built for reading together, so some of your information is visible to the members of groups you join:

  • Your name and profile photo.
  • Your daily status, the amount you read, your streak and your completion rate.
  • Your position on the group leaderboard. You can hide yourself from all leaderboards in More → Privacy; group admins can still see your daily status.

Excuse reasons and notes are visible only to you and the admins of that group. Your email address and phone number are never shown to other members. Personal trackers are visible only to you.

5. Service providers

We use a small number of trusted providers who process data on our behalf, only to run the app:

ProviderWhat for
SupabaseHosting, database, sign-in and storage of profile photos
Google“Continue with Google” sign-in, and Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver notifications on Android
ExpoSending push notifications to your device

These providers may store data on servers outside the Republic of Djibouti. They are bound by their own privacy and security commitments and may only use the data to provide their service to us. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

6. Sponsored content

The home screen may show sponsored images. They are shown to everyone in the same way and are not based on your data. We do not share any personal information with sponsors. If you tap one, it opens the sponsor’s website, which has its own privacy policy.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile, reading history, excuses, notifications, notification tokens and profile photo are deleted, and so are any groups in which you were the only member. Copies may remain in our provider’s encrypted backups for a short period (up to 30 days) before they are overwritten. Support emails are kept only as long as needed to handle your request.

8. Your choices and rights

  • See and correct your name, photo and settings at any time in the app.
  • Hide your progress from leaderboards, or turn off notifications.
  • Leave any group, or delete your account and its data. See how to delete your account.
  • Ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct, restrict or erase it, by contacting support@djibsmart.net. We answer within 30 days.

We follow the data protection law of the Republic of Djibouti. If you live in the European Union or another region with its own data protection law, you have the rights that law gives you, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

9. Security

Data is encrypted in transit, sign-in sessions on your phone are stored in encrypted storage, and database access rules make sure each person can only reach their own data and the groups they belong to. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will let you know if a breach affects you.

10. Children

Akhriya is intended for people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will change the date at the top, and tell you in the app if the changes are significant.
